Gone but felt

Anytime she tastes something bitter,

It leaves a burning sensation in her tongue,

Reaching the back of her mouth,

Straight down her throat:

This is not the first time she feels like this,

A feeling that reminds her,

Of the unfortunate incident,

Her worst memory:

Still, she acts strong to the world,

Each time embracing a poker face,

Deceiving others and concealing her discomfort,

Suffering the pain alone:

Her husband has passed on,

At least that is what we believe,

He left and never came back,

Death became the whisper on everyone’s lips:

She drained her sheets with tears each night,

Hoping for a miracle,

But the episode left her a scar,

She is now internally damaged:

She feels he is not really died,

We can tell she is still in love with him,

Her hearts still years for him,

Even though she tries to pretend to us,

We know she thinks of covering herself in his embrace,

His gentle caresses,

He was her defender

Fighting the world against all odds:

But he is now gone and she feels it was her fault,

A feeling that burns each time she tastes bitterness.

  1. Emotions when written bring release from pain and make the future easy as one learns to move on.
Those that have gone will always stay in ones heart even though they may never come back.
Simple words that flow with thoughts give a unique beauty to the poem!
